A piece of what's to come

No, it isn't pie.  Or cake.  Or any other dessert, for that matter.  I'm currently undertaking my biggest video project to date, which involves getting a great deal of what I suppose you'd call "B" footage.  In this case, I'll be getting a lot of gaming and, science, and general nerd-dom footage for said video (note that this song is 19 of 23 I played).  This is part of it; Rock Band, one of my favorite party (video) games.  This particular one is "She's So Mean" by Matchbox Twenty.  Great song and really fun to play on the drums.  Enjoy!

P.S. Is anyone else hungry?

New Video!

Latest video up on the YouTube.  Another board gaming one, but one that is important to me.  For a fair portion of my life, I had to make a lot of my own entertainment, never really had friends, standard 'nerd' backstory here.  It was never fun by any means, but it did give me the unique ability to be alone for long periods of time and be OK with it.

One of the main ways I got by was with gaming (as a kid, video games; I do miss my SNES every day).  Nowadays, being older, wiser, and far busier, I've moved more into the intellectual and strategic side of gaming with board games of all sorts.  The ones on this list are games that I've had a great time playing by myself, a rather rare gem in the world of strategic board games.  Enjoy!

The Food We Miss

For those who don't know, I lived in Germany for seven years, the formative ones, to be precise.  All of middle and high school.  There is an enormous amount of amazing things that I miss from living in Europe, from the people to the trips.  One thing that I miss more than anything, though, is by far the food.  It makes me feel like a bit of a fatty to say, but it truly is the one thing I miss most.  Since I've been in San Antonio, I've tried to find good quality German food that I remember so fondly now.  I did have some luck with a place near my first apartment here.  Decent, not great.

Enter a breakfast eatery.  An awesome one, at that.  Just about the best pancakes I've ever had at a restaurant.   Magnolia Pancake Haus.  First thing one notices?  HAUS!!!!  Yes, go German spelling!!!! No dinner fare, however.  But delicious breakfast and lunch.  Recently they opened a new location closer to home and applied for a beer service license..... intriguing...... Long story short is they open up Wed-Fri for a Bier Haus Dinner menu.... OMFG YES!  I think, if the dinners are even half as good as the breakfast and lunch, we're golden.  At long last, the fiancee and I head over this past Friday.

Start the night off right, the Hefe.... with napkin wing-like things.
Mmmmm appetizer.  Hand rolled Bavarian style pretzels.  The spicy honey mustard was amazing too!

OMG ginormous schnitzel!!!!  With the awesome Jager sauce.  Not the drink, the sauteed kind.  Also potato salad and red cabbage with bacon.  Oooooo the bacon.  And some pumpernickel bread.  Mmmm.
The fiancee's noms.  German?  No, not really, Ruben sandwich with home-made kettle chips.  Awesome.  Oh and pickle.  Yay pickle

And an amazing surprise of deliciousness underneath the schnitzel.  Spaetzle!!!    The awesome non-standard sized pasta pieces with just enough butter.  OMG so good.  So incredible.
The big awesome thing I've missed, and at least a taste of it here in my new home.  Thank you, Haus!!  Bye until next time!

*Whew*....

After a very busy and bustling couple of weeks I've finally gotten around to making my newest video.  Huzzah!  Thankfully busy in a good way, though, working on presenting my latest findings, finally getting my PI to acknowledge the fact that he needs to do things for me to work well, etc.  Good times.

Either way, this latest video is almost a follow-up to one of my first, on science education.  A couple weeks ago, Science (the magazine) published a special on science education challenges in the US and figuring out the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).  This video is a brief look at that.  I also put links to the articles in the description on YouTube, if you're interested.  Hope you enjoy!

Seeing as how youtube and blogger communication is being a stupid face, I had to put the link in instead.  Oh the humanity!!!!!!  How will I live sans video embedding???????  Also not caring enough to HTML it?  Oh well.  Enjoy anyway!!
